Chelsea and Dexter Covid-19 Emergency Funding Information for Donors and Households

In response to increased financial distress caused by the global Covid-19 pandemic, The Chelsea and Dexter communities want to mobilize and collect donations to combat the effects of poverty and hunger in the Chelsea and Dexter areas.  Faith in Action and many community partners have an online application available HERE for anyone who needs help as a result of Covid-19.

Please donate!

Faith in Action is providing leadership in collecting donations to support households in need in the Chelsea and Dexter areas.  We continue to address area needs related to food and shelter and will help the community address any other increased needs due to the expected impact of Covid-19 in the coming months.   Donations to help us combat the effects of this pandemic can be made by PayPal at www.faithinaction1.org, by Facebook, or by mailing a check to the address listed on the website.

As the largest social services non-profit in Western Washtenaw County, Faith in Action will continue to secure additional county and area human service funds to mobilize resources for families in the area.

Do you need help?

Anyone already in need of assistance, or who expects financial hardship in the near future, is encouraged to reach out for help.  A simple online form is available HERE to see if Faith in Action, along with community partners, can help your household get through this challenging time.  All information is confidential and will only be used to assess if and how we can help.

We expect unemployment to increase, and the hardship to grow in our community, and we are here for you.  Please do not hesitate to ask for help. The first step is to complete the online form or call Faith in Action 734-475-3305 during business hours, Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 AM-7 PM, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 AM-4 PM. We are closed on Fridays for restocking and deep cleaning.  We have temporarily closed the Dexter food pantry location and are working out of Chelsea until at least mid-May. If you need a form mailed or emailed to you, call and let us know where to send it.  Also visit https://www.uwwashtenaw.org/ or call 211 for county-wide resources.

About Faith in Action

A network of support exists for anyone struggling with the effects of poverty and hunger.  Area churches worked together over 40 years ago in Chelsea to create Faith in Action to serve as the single entry point and a community safety net for anyone needing help. Over the years, Faith in Action joined forces with Dexter Family Services to also fully serve Dexter. Still, today, these strong partnerships continue along with faith communities of many denominations, businesses, individual donors, family foundations, plus service and philanthropic organizations.

Faith in Action typically serves households who earn up to 200% of the federal poverty level, so a household of 4 people who make $4,367 or less per month already qualifies for services.  Qualifying households can receive a full order of groceries up to every two weeks. Leaning on FIA for groceries allows a household to spend their money on other critical needs like shelter or transportation. Faith in Action also helps year-round with eviction prevention through rent and mortgage assistance, utility shut off prevention, auto repair cost assistance, gasoline vouchers, some medical cost help, prescriptions, and emergency dental expenses. We also have staff available to help navigate Medicaid questions, MiBridges, and online job searches.

Faith in Action is a 501c3 non-profit that provides resources to alleviate the effects of hunger and poverty in the school districts of Chelsea and Dexter, and also serves Scio Farms with our food pantry.  Through ongoing community support, FIA has grown to cover Dexter and address emergent needs throughout both communities.
