COVID-19 Update: Building, Hours, and Process Changes (Last Updated: Sept 25, 2020)

Faith in Action continues a 40-year history of mobilizing the kindness of caring individuals, churches, businesses, and organizations as we provide emergency food for anyone in need in our community.

MASKS ARE REQUIRED TO ENTER OUR BUILDING FOR ANY REASON! Health questionnaires including current temperature are also a daily requirement for entry.

If you need help, please call us at (734) 475-3305
If you are in need of emergency food or other financial services, and your income falls within 200% of the federal poverty level, call us and see if we can help, or complete this online form anytime and we will reach out to see how we can help. Additional help can be found by calling United Way by dialing 211 or visit uwwashtenaw.org/contact-us.

New hours at Chelsea location
In response to Covid-19, we are making several additional operation updates, plus schedule and process changes. Service hours until further notice are as follows: The Chelsea building will take calls and fill food orders on Mondays 9am-4pm, Tuesdays 9am-4pm, Wednesdays 9am-7pm, Thursdays 9am-4pm, and Friday 10am-2pm. We are closed Saturday-Sunday.

Temporarily closing Dexter location
We are temporarily closing the Dexter food pantry location due only to Covid-19 and the resulting staffing limitations. All services provided by Faith in Action will be taking place at the Chelsea location during the hours listed above. Anyone who shops at the Dexter pantry is asked to come to Chelsea Monday through Thursday. This will allow for better staff coverage, restocking time for volunteers, and deep cleaning. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes but hope the expanded hours and days for Dexter households will help. Any current or future clients should call 734-475-3305 with any questions, or if you have concerns about food access given these changes. Leave a message if necessary.

Food donation safety protocol
Hours of operation are the best time to make any food donations, and only at the Chelsea location. If you are following the recommended safety protocols, and fall within a less-at-risk group, and are already out shopping for your personal items, and see items we have posted on our social media, we appreciate your food donations. Please leave food donations outside the front door during work hours/days and call to notify staff who will also check periodically. For refrigerated items, please call first to make sure we have space in cold storage. We cannot take any left over school or summer lunch items that are not labeled. If needed, receipts can be sent later so leave a note with your contact information inside your donation bag.

Financial donations are more important than ever
As always, financial donations provide most of our operating, program, and supportive service funds. This pandemic will increase our need for the coming months which makes your financial donation more important than ever. Funds allow us to maintain services during this emergency as we keep food on our shelves, address emergency needs, and maintain critical staffing levels. Donations to Faith In Action can be made online via PayPal or via facebook.com/FIA.ChelseaDexter.

Volunteers asked to stay home at this time
While we typically rely on a large crew of volunteers, we have directed all of our volunteers to stay home with very few exceptions. This means our essential staff is being extra vigilant so we can stay healthy, maintain a safe work environment, and provide both food and crucial supportive services to anyone in need in the community. We are not able to onboard any new volunteers at this time, but we appreciate your interest. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer in the future can complete this online form and we will reach out once we are in need of new volunteers.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times. Faith in Action is here for the community!

Executive Director
